Communications Field Day # 4 & Test Session # 2

- March 19-20, 2014

 

Dorothy Grant Elementary School (K6DGE)'s Communications Field Day # 4 & Test Session # 2 - March19-20, 2014.

A total of 43 students (Qty 23 4th Grade Class and 20 DGES Amateur Radio Club students) participated in the event including 34 students taking the FCC Amateur Radio Technician Class License, 3 students took the General Class License and the teacher took the Extra Class License exam.

The following 19 students passed their Technician Class License and Teacher passed the Extra Class Exam:

We were also supported by DGES's PTA and student mothers throughout the day - their efforts were greatly appreciated.

 

Schedule Day 1
Schedule for the DGES Field Day #4 and Test Session, Wednesday, March 19, 2014:
8:30 AM Arrival; Kids start to set-up the 3 radios and antenna's in the class room areas.
9:00 AM - Ms. Matheson will introduce VE's to her 4th Grade Class.

9:15 AM - Each VE will talk to the kids about how their committed to Youth in Amateur Radio
9:30 AM - 11:30 AM - 4th Grade Class Kids (Qty 23) get on the air as K6DGE;

                     Station # 1 (ICOM-746PRO and vertical) Arnold (N6HC) with Group # 1 kids - 10 Meters,

                     Station # 2 (ICOM-746PRO with Vertical) - Bev (KJ6RSX) with Group # 2 kids - 15 Meters and

                     Station # 3 (ICOM-7100 with Wire Vertical) - Paul (N6PSE) with Group # 3 kids - 20 Meters
11:30 AM - 12:30 PM DGES Amateur Radio Club students (additional 10-20) will join the the 4th Grade Class to operate and have lunch.
12:00 PM - Pizza Lunch will be served and donated by PTA
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM Test Session in the Cafeteria including three local Adults that joined the ARRL Test Session.
3:15 PM - Gift Bags and Certificates will be issued to kids and group photo taken
3:30 PM - Clean-up and Departure
4:00 PM to 5:30 PM - VE Team Dinner
 

Schedule Day 2
Schedule for the DGES Test Session, Thursday, March 20, 2014:
8:30 AM - 10:00 AM Test Session with 34 DGES students taking the Technician Class Exam with 19 Passing and 15 were un-successful, but will try again next year. The three students taking the FCC General Class exam came close, but did not pass this time. The teacher (Beverly Matheson) passed the FCC Extra Class.

 

Donations

K3LP donated ICOM IC-7100 to the school for station # 3

Paul Ewing (N6PSE) donated a switching power supply and 100' coax for Station #3

All fees for the Kids FCC Amateur Radio Exams were donated by David (K3LP)

 

Each student received a Certificate of Participation and an ICOM sponsored gift bag.
